This collection features five peer-reviewed literature reviews on mycotoxin control in agriculture. The first chapter reviews advances in post-harvest detection and control of fungal contaminants in cereals. It examines abiotic factors affecting spoilage, methods for early detection of contamination and the range control measures for preventing toxin growth. The second chapter focuses on post-harvest storage and handling practices of barley grain and how these methods can be used to mitigate mycotoxin issues. The chapter also reviews the various mycotoxins and fungi that are associated with barley. The third chapter considers the current strategies available to prevent mycotoxin contamination in groundnut cultivation, focussing on peanuts. It also covers models that predict contamination, as well as the challenges associated with research and quantification of aflatoxin. The fourth chapter presents an overview of the current understanding of mycotoxin contamination of cocoa. The chapter summarises the various methods available to aid detection of mycotoxins and control further contamination. La busqueda del vecino mas cercano es una tecnica ampliamente usada en problemas de Reconocimiento de Patrones. Cuando la base de datos es grande o la funcion de comparacion es costosa computacionalmente, la busqueda del vecino mas cercano por fuerza bruta se torna impractica. Una manera de lidiar con este problema es a traves de los algoritmos de busqueda rapida del vecino mas cercano. Aunque muchos son los algoritmos propuestos para trabajar en espacios metricos, poco se ha hecho para el trabajo en condiciones mas generales. Es por esto que en este trabajo se proponen 4 nuevos algoritmos para acelerar la busqueda del vecino mas cercano en espacios semimetricos finitos dimensionales. Los nuevos algoritmos se basan en 4 teoremas que se proponen y demuestran en el documento. Para evaluar los algoritmos se realizan experimentos numericos con 5 bases de datos reales del repositorio de la Universidad de California en Irvine. Para la mayoria de las bases de datos de prueba, los algoritmos propuestos obtienen el vecino mas cercano con menos comparaciones entre objetos que las realizadas por el unico algoritmo propuesto en la literatura para espacios semimetricos finito dimensionales."

ALVOT (ALgoritmos de VOTacion) es un modelo de algoritmos de clasificacion supervisada basado en precedencias parciales que permite trabajar con descripciones de objetos en terminos de variables numericas y no numericas simultaneamente e incluso admite valores desconocidos en las mismas. Este ha sido utilizado en numerosos problemas practicos en las denominadas ciencias poco formalizadas ("soft sciences") como por ejemplo las geociencias, la medicina, la criminalistica y otras. Los clasificadores ALVOT, como todos los clasificadores supervisados en general, necesitan de una "buena" matriz de entrenamiento para lograr clasificar con calidad; de aqui que sea un problema determinar que objetos se deben seleccionar para el entrenamiento de los mismos. Es por esto que en el presente trabajo se proponen dos metodos de seleccion de objetos; el primero para mejorar la eficiencia sin afectar la eficacia sustancialmente de los clasificadores ALVOT, y el segundo para mejorar la eficacia al trabajar con bases de datos ruidosas.
